School Admission Arrangements 2018/19

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Purpose:

The Local Authority is the Admission Authority for Community, Voluntary Controlled and Community Special Schools and is required to consult every seven years on its school admission arrangements, or when there are proposed changes. The Authority is required to conduct a consultation of a minimum of 6 weeks between 1 October 2016 and 31 January 2017. It must then determine its arrangements by 28 February 2017.

Decision:

That the Cabinet Member determines the admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools for the 2018/19 academic year as outlined in the report.

Reasons for the decision:

The recommendation to approve the proposed admission arrangements for 2018/19 will ensure that the Authority carries out its statutory duty to consult and determine its admission arrangements at least once every 7 years.  The proposed amendments at paragraph 1.5 of the report will support local parents to obtain places at their local schools.

Alternative options considered:

The Admissions Review was a City wide consultation which asked whether the current admission arrangements were still supported and were still fit for purpose.  There continued to be a high level of support for the current arrangements and apart from the minor amendments to existing catchment areas, there have not been any alternative arrangements considered.
