Centenary of Council Housing Celebrations - Party in the Parks

Decision Maker: Director of Housing and Neighbourhoods Service

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Purpose:

This year is the centenary of the 1919 Addison Act which enabled the large-scale expansion of council housing in England. This report proposes that the Council hosts three celebratory events in parks in the city.

Decision:

That the proposals and the budget, as contained in the report, are approved.

Reasons for the decision:

The recommendations in this report have been proposed as the most effective solution to deliver a commitment made by the Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety to deliver a series of events to celebrate the centenary of the Addison Act.

Advice has been sought from relevant services within the Council to ensure that appropriate processes are followed.  The Major Events team have been commissioned, and budget provision identified, to provide expert support to ensure that each event is delivered to the required standard.  This approach provides better value for money than utilising existing housing staff without the requisite skills to manage an event of this type.
