Increasing The Number Of Attendees At Burial And Cremation Services

Decision Maker: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Decisions

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Decision:

To approve an increase in the number of mourners permitted (from 5 to 10) to attend a cremation service in the chapels at City Road / Hutcliffe Wood Crematoria or a graveside service at one of Sheffield City Council’s cemeteries, subject to appropriate social distancing, to be implemented from Friday15th May 2020.

Reasons for the decision:

Taking in to account the fact that the guidance on funerals has not changed, the latest announcements from the Government relaxes some measures slightly. The lowest number of attendees at a funeral is still the preferred option at Sheffield. A number of 10 is therefore considered appropriate and can be accommodated with the required level of social distancing at each site. This change will be implemented from Friday 15th May 2020 and will be communicated to all Funeral Directors in Sheffield.
