Reduction in Cremation Fees

Decision Maker: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Decisions

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Decision:

To approve a reduction in cremation fees as follows, to reflect the reduction in service length and to increase demand for cremation direct slots:-

-          Standard service: Charge reduced from £900 to £850.

-          Cremation direct (specific timed slots): Charge reduced from £550 to £500.

-          Cremation direct at other times (only offered when all timed slots are full): This is a new service not previously offered - charge of £650.

Reasons for the decision:

Cremation service lengths are being reduced from 18th May 2020 and the number of 'cremation direct' services is also being increased.  This is being implemented to allow a greater number of cremations each day to ensure there is capacity for increased numbers of deaths.  The proposed actions are:-

-          Standard service: Charge reduced from £900 to £850.

-          Cremation direct (specific timed slots): Charge reduced from £550 to £500.

-          Cremation direct at other times (only offered when all timed slots are full): This is a new service not previously offered - charge of £650.

Based on the average number of cremations over the last 3 weeks, the financial impact would equate to a loss of around £3,600 per week.  However, some of this 'loss' will be offset by the increased numbers of cremations.  These price changes will be in place for as long as the reduced service length is in place.
