Implementing the South Yorkshire Devolution Deal - Consent to Draft Order

Decision Maker: Chief Executive

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Purpose:

To give Sheffield City Council’s consent to the draft Order.

Decision:

Having consulted with the Leader of the Council and the Director of Legal and Governance, to give consent on behalf of Sheffield City Council to the draft Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield Combined Authority (Functions and Amendment) Order 2020.

Reasons for the decision:

The draft Order is in line with the principles outlined in the report to Cabinet on 18th March 2020: it corresponds with the proposals set out in the Sheffield City Region Mayoral Combined Authority’s Governance Review and Scheme; the result of the consultation exercise on the Governance Review and Scheme is that no amendments have been made and the Scheme was accordingly submitted to the Secretary of State.

Alternative options considered:

Not to consent to the draft Order – this would mean that the Sheffield City Region Devolution Deal agreed in October 2015 could not be implemented.
