To inform the Cabinet Member for Transport and Development about the acceptance of the eCargo Bike grant from the Department of Transport for the funding of eCargo bikes for Sheffield business via a grant scheme using the funds awarded from the successful bid to the Energy Saving Trust.

To:-

(a)  note the receipt of the Grant, as set out within the report; and

(b)  note the intended process to award grants to 26 businesses for 32 bikes, as per the grant submission.

Recommend accepting the grant fund as set out in the successful bid. The reason being it will kick start the growth of e cargo bikes in the city. The bikes will replace motorised vehicles, thus will help with clean air zone objectives. It will also offer employment opportunities, and be of economic benefit to each of the beneficiaries.

We considered running a hire or lease scheme but these had significant revenue implications for the City Council. Other Council departments were asked if they would like to participate, with no response. We will, however, be purchasing e-bikes for Council use through Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) Phase 2a.
