School Crossing Patrol Wardens

Decision Maker: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Decisions

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Decision:

To reintroduce School Crossing Patrol Wardens at 5 sites where social distancing rules can be met, but with associated temporary works and full PPE provision.

Reasons for the decision:

It is proposed to reintroduce the service at the 5 sites where social distancing rules can be met, in preference to the alternative of not returning any Wardens for the remaining 5 weeks of the school term (as in most cases we cannot ensure safe social distancing).  This decision reflects a balance of child safety and Covid-19 risks, and it should be ensured that the Council’s existing PPE practises are followed.

The numbers attending school will be very low (10% currently) and of those pupils that will be attending, most will be accompanied by a parent or carer, as demonstrated by on site surveys carried out in the business as usual scenario.

Preparation will be made for a full return to work for the new school year in September 2020.
