Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Transport and Development

Decision status: Recommendations Approved (subject to call-in)

Further reports will be submitted for a decision by the Cabinet Member for Transport and Development when the legal orders for the weight restrictions are advertised.

Decision:

(i) That the findings of the Technical Evaluation of the top 5 HGV Hot Spots 2017 be accepted in full;

o   The Wheel (including Whitley Lane and adjacent streets);

o   Twentywell Lane (including Prospect Rd, Queen Victoria Rd and surrounding streets);

o   Psalter Lane (and Boston Street);

o   Beighton Road, Woodhouse (including Market St, Beaver Hill Rd, Station Rd and surrounding streets); and

(iii) That the traffic regulation orders for the individual schemes be advertised at the same time in August 2018 and funding is reallocated in the 2018/20 LTP programmes for their implementation in the following priority

  1. Psalter Lane;
  2. Twentywell Lane;
  3. The Wheel;

4. Beighton Rd, Woodhouse.

Reasons for the decision:

The proposed measures will address complaints received regarding the impact HGVs are having on the lives and wellbeing of local residents.

Alternative options considered:

Advisory signing has been tried but has proved ineffective. Only a legal prohibition which could be enforced is likely to be effective.
