Appointment of Interim Chief Executive, Head of Paid Service, and Returning Officer

Report (to follow) of the Executive Director, Resources on the recruitment exercise for an Interim Chief Executive, and containing recommendations relating to that appointment, the Head of Paid Service and Returning Officer designations.

Appointment of Interim Chief Executive, Head of Paid Service, and Returning Officer

 

 

9.1

RESOLVED: On the motion of Councillor Julie Dore, seconded by Councillor Penny Baker, that this Council:-

 

 

 

(a)        notes the information contained in the report of the Director of Human Resources and Customer Services now submitted, on the recruitment exercise for an Interim Chief Executive;

 

 

 

(b)        approves the appointment of Charlie Adan to the post of Interim Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service, in accordance with the terms set out in the report, and notes that Charlie Adan is expected to start in post in January 2020; and

 

 

 

(c)        approves the changes to the Proper Officer designations within Part 7 (Management Structure and Statutory/Proper Officers) of the Constitution, as set out in the appendix to the report, with effect from 1st January 2020, which includes the transfer to the Director of Policy, Performance and Communications of the Proper Officer functions of the Returning Officer for Local and Parliamentary elections.

 

 

 

 

 

Tributes to John Mothersole, Chief Executive

 

 

9.2

The Lord Mayor (Councillor Tony Downing) referred to the fact that John Mothersole was attending his last meeting of the Council before retiring at the end of the calendar year.  He stated that Mr. Mothersole had joined the Council in 1998 and has served as Chief Executive since 2008.  The Leaders of the three political groups on the Council (Councillors Julie Dore, Penny Baker and Douglas Johnson) each paid tribute to Mr. Mothersole for his service to the City Council.

 

 

9.3

(NOTE: During the above tributes to the Chief Executive, it was - RESOLVED: On the motion of The Lord Mayor (Councillor Tony Downing) and seconded by The Deputy Lord Mayor (Councillor Gail Smith), that the provisions of Council Procedure Rule 5.5 be suspended and the termination of the meeting be extended to enable the conclusion of the tributes.)
