It is not Sheffield’s tax payer’s problem that Sheffield Council decided to renew a waste contract with bin contractors, Veolia, back in 2017.
More to the point, the UK Government is giving UK councils funding to introduce the road side food waste service. But if you have decided to delay starting the roadside food waste service, are you not missing out on an opportunity to introduce it when the UK Government is giving UK councils funding to start the roadside food waste service? Would you, Sheffield Council, not take that opportunity to start the food waste service and tackle climate change, not forgetting a chance to cut back on plastic bags ,reduce the amount of plastic bags going into the black bin with rotten food waste in, not forgetting an opportunity to reduce the amount of plastic bags households fill up with in 2 weeks? This is an opportunity for Sheffield households to help reduce the amount of food waste they produce. Not forgetting Sheffield Council gave Sheffield households a second black bin for general waste. Would it not make more sense to use the second black bin for food waste instead? Maybe, just maybe you will only need an indoor caddy and compostable bin liners so households can use the second black bin to also help reduce food waste and help tackle climate change?
It took Lib Dem Councillors so long to introduce a food waste trial. Why would you wait until 2036-2038 to introduce a roadside food waste service?
I am disappointed to hear, Labour Councillors at Sheffield Council and Green Councillors, turned down such a brilliant opportunity when a UK Conservative Government is giving UK councils funding, plus an opportunity to start the roadside food waste service.
