Save Sheffield Online

We the undersigned petition the council to Retain full funding for the Digital Boost project currently delivered by Heeley Development Trust as the Sheffield Online project.

Sheffield City Council has decided to cease funding the Digital Boost Project known as Sheffield Online from 1st April 2017.

The service is currently delivered by Heeley Development Trust.

Currently the project delivers 30 plus basic computing classes across Sheffield every week helping hundreds of people get online.

One paid member of staff is paid to co-ordinate volunteer tutors for this high-delivery low-cost project. The consequential digital exclusion of thousands will cost the council far more.

In the digital age the ability to access online services should be available to everyone and these classes are held to reach out to people in Sheffield who are currently excluded often due to poverty and social isolation. The sessions also help combat loneliness and isolation amongst older generations so have an added positive community benefit.

Anyone who has seen the film “ I Daniel Blake” will know the impact this has on people who are looking for work.
