The club's preferred investor (which included plans for a Rugby League and Rugby Union centre of excellence for South Yorkshire) wasn't chosen for the stadium to be built at the Olympic Legacy Park instead being given to Scarborough Group. We the undersigned asked Sheffield City Council to work with Sheffield Eagles, The Olympic Legacy Park and Kevin McCabe's Scarborough Group to ensure the Olympic Legacy Park meets RFL requirements for the 2018 season so Sheffield Eagles can play on the site and return to the City and a fair and just agreement is agreed with the club on this.
When the news came out the DVS was to be demolished, we attended
(along with approx 60 people) a meeting at the OLP and we were
assured by Richard Caborn that Sheffield Eagles would have a pitch
laid with flood lights and they could play there along with other
rugby teams as long as we provided an investor to build the ground
around it. We have had 2 investors who were prepared to do this but
the council have made a u-turn in this agreement and now a new
bidder has come in and been accepted as the OLP's choice of
developer. Sheffield Eagles still have an interested investor, who
laid down a plan to develop the
site and Rugby in Sheffield 'The City of Sport'. Why now do we find
ourselves faced with the prospect that this may now become a
football pitch for women's football. It feels like we have been
given broken promises and are now worried that Sheffield Eagles
could go into extinction if an agreement with the new developer
isn't met. It is beyond our comprehension that the council would
even consider allowing Sheffield United that have already got 2
venues in the city to now acquire a 3rd.
