Black Bin Policy for Student Residents
The council's current policy ignores the fact that student residencies generate far more waste than standard residencies, due to factors such as not eating the same food because of differing dietary requirements, tastes and meal times. A family of 7 can, usually, eat the same food at the same time, allowing for far less waste. This is impossible for students given different allergies etc and timetables, part time jobs etc. In addition, students generally don't drive, therefore do not have the capacity to take waste to alternative sites.
As a household of 7, we had our additional bin taken away, despite filling it every 2 weeks. We also requested an additional recycling bin which we also fill. We do everything we can to reduce our waste and recycle whatever possible, but we are now left with general waste which the council refuses to take away individually but also refuses to give us our bin back. This is incredibly unhygienic and uncivil.
