Sexual Entertainment Venues

We the undersigned petition the council to research the issues surrounding the sexual entertainment industry so that SCC can understand these fully and reach an agreed position on the licensing of SEVs, the associated impact on women and men, and the Council's legal responsibility under the Public Sector Equality Duty. With two conceded Judicial Reviews on decisions regarding Sexual Entertainment Venues in the City, and with a new SEV policy consultation about to start, we call on all councillors to give this consideration.

Another consultation regarding SEVs is about to start. Instead of only those Councillors who sit on the Licensing Committee being involved in the discussion - which has led to two failed Judicial Reviews in the last three years - we believe that, like Rotherham, all Councillors should be in full possession of all the facts and involved in the discussion, so that the Council can decide on their position on this section of the sex industry being a part of our Sheffield community.
