Kindertransport Legacy

We the undersigned petition the council to We the undersigned urge Sheffield City Council, in the light of its long record of welcome to refugees and asylum seekers, and as the country’s first City of Sanctuary, to commit to welcoming 10 child refugees per year over 10 years (that is a total of 100 children.)

This November marks the 80th anniversary of the KIndertransport that brought 10,000 Jewish children to safety in this country, including some to Sheffield. As part of this anniversary the national Kindertransport Legacy Campaign, led by Lord Alf Dubs, himself a Kindertransport child, is calling on central government to start a fully-funded scheme for 10,000 child refugees to be resettled in the Uk over the next 10 years.
Councils up and down the country have already begun to pledge places for children. We call on Sheffield City Council to show leadership on this issue by matching th contribution of Hammersmith and Fulham, who have already committed 10 places per year for refugee children
