Acceptance of government grant for Asymptomatic Test Site(s)

Decision Maker: Leader of the Council

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Decision:

To:

1.    Approve delivery of the Asymptomatic Test Sites as outlined in the report.

2.    Approve acceptance of the Government grant associated with SCC delivery of asymptomatic testing.

Reasons for the decision:

Cabinet approved the plan to have an Asymptomatic Test Site (ATS) at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS) at the Cabinet meeting on 16 December 2020. The ATS uses Lateral Flow Devices (LFDs) to give a rapid result for people without any Covid symptoms, without the need for a laboratory to process the test. The EISS ATS started operating on 18 February 2021 and will continue until the end of June 2021 in the first instance.

We recognise that the location of the EISS site will make it difficult for all people from across Sheffield to have an equal opportunity to use the site. Therefore, we will also have a community testing vehicle operational from late March. This vehicle will visit communities to offer testing, as well as provide information around issues such as self-isolation, financial support, and vaccination.

DHSC have approved the Council’s proposals for the EISS site and the community testing vehicle and are providing funding by way of a Section 31 grant.
