9.1

Following the presentation, Members of the Committee broke out into breakout groups with Officers and members of the public. They were asked to consider the following 3 questions.

 

1.   Do you feel this is an issue in your area / community?

 

2.   What are your thoughts on addressing the issues raised

 

3.   How do we raise more awareness amongst boys and men?

Following the breakout session, one person from each group was asked to feedback their groups thoughts. A summary of all the feedback presented were as follows: -

·       Different design of buildings can put women at risk

·       Younger people were worried about talking about it to boys and men

·       There was an online portal by South Yorkshire Police that people can put their experiences on

·       More schools should play the video to their students

·       Should invest in children, under the age of 10, and educate them in this issue

·       Upload similar videos on social media

·       Include other sporting teams in the City to spread the awareness

·       Apply these messages into kids book to targeting young people

·       Use school champions in each school

·       Look at business policies and tender processes.  Have they got a policy in place on this issue

·       Need a safe place to discuss these concerns without judgement

·       Send letters to the parents of students in schools, informing them of these messages to help educate young people

·       This video should be shared through religious/faith groups

·       Can a video be done from a male perspective

·       Make sure ‘Ask Angela’ scheme is in as many venues as possible

9.4

The Youth Voice and Influence Manager asked all the attendees to make an individual pledge to themselves to take responsibility in leading change in either their communities, their area, their school, their family or their workplace.

The Chair passed on her thanks to all the young people involved in making the video.
