Report of the Executive Director, Children, Young People and Families

Minutes:

4.1

Further to the decision of the Cabinet at its meeting held on 19th June 2013, regarding the phased withdrawal of all discretionary free bus passes to denominational schools with effect from September 2013, the Interim Executive Director, Children, Young People and Families, submitted reports on two cases where parents had appealed against the decisions to withdraw the bus passes, and where the parents had requested that they attend the meeting to present their cases in person.

 

 

4.2

The Committee gave consideration to the parents’ verbal and written representations, including parental wishes regarding religion or belief, and any evidence provided by voluntary or professional bodies and organisations, where submitted and, arising therefrom, it was:-

RESOLVED: That (a) one appeal be upheld on the grounds that there are exceptional financial circumstances in the case (Case No. NOT8); and

 

 

 

(b) one appeal be not upheld on the grounds that there are no exceptional circumstances demonstrated and, having regard to the Council’s revised Home to School Transport Policy, the pupil does not attend his catchment area school/nearest suitable school (Case No. ALL6).
